When Starship Troopers came out in 1997 it perhaps wasn’t given the credit it was due. On the surface it seems like a tub-thumping, pro-war film, packaged in a cheesy, over-the-top love story. But the clever use of propaganda and media brainwashing of human children leave you in some doubt as to whether it’s the humans or the bugs that are really the bad guys.
It remains to be seen whether this can be repeated in a fully animated movie sequel but it will give us an idea about how far we are from seeing fully animated movies that can compete with a high budget SFX movie.
